Project framework

Event title: Celebrate with masks
Date: Saturday, August 29, 2-3 pm Location: Public library
Registration: Requested
Goal:
· To have fun, party, socialize and ‘share experiences’ at the library
· To make masks
· To connect with masks as story starters
· To celebrate and appreciate cultural diversity
Action and impact on service:
· To sign up for a library card
· To train our patrons that admission to programs is by showing your library card
Target Segments or Who is it for? :
· Smile mask & tickle trunk may be appropriate for preschoolers & Kindergarten
· Mask stories (depending on the story) may be for slightly older kids, sun catcher and lanterns may be for older kids
· Mandelas etc may be for teenagers or adults
· Cucumber slices on eyes for mothers to relax
· Newcomers
· City of Swift Current employees and employees of our partners
· Everyone is welcome; this event is suitable for families, seniors and anyone with a party heart and mind.
Promotion and plant an audience:
· To make mask kits for August 12 storyteller event
· To invite by calling a few of our loyal patrons who have attended celebrations & bazaar programs
· To post the event on the website, city page PP ad and Swift Current online
· To set up a display in the large display case (July 31)
· To put the poster with colourful miniature masks appealing to different audiences in different areas in the library and the washrooms
· To put paper masks on the Public Access Computers wall with the aim of converting a few computers users to program audience
· To create bookmarks and distribute them (July 31-Augsut 28)
· To create and update Smile Mask blog (July 29)
Communication in the community
Newcomers
· To distribute library card sign up posters at the newcomer centre.
· To distribute library card sign up posters at fast food outlets and hotels such as Tim Hortons, MacDonalds, KFC, Super 8,…..
City Employees
· To request Shelley to check with the Social Committee and host the ‘monthly social barbeque’ at the library and invite city employees to sign up for a library card. (meeting with Shelley on July 31, 2 pm)
Tagline:
· Be a friend--bring a friend!
Collection:
· To set-up book checkout open displays - reference desk and (July 28)
· To set-up black box closed displays -Mardi Gras, Chinese opera, African mask, Trinidad Carnival. (July 29)
· To invite patrons to visit the library and this will help boost circulation.
· To make them ‘book baskets’ and write the name of the staff who picked up the selction of ooks and give a name to the basket
· To set up a display in the youth area to reach out to them. Maybe fantasy books?
Engaging the community prior to the event:
· To put up WANTED MASKS on the front desk computers (July 28)
· To request our patrons and staff to write stories of their masks and share stories and experiences with each other and our patrons (Ivan and Daryl have submitted Masskara Festival story)
Engaging the community on the day of the event with:
· Hands on activities
· Party
· Storyteller Lyndon????

Support and link to the key goal on the day of the event (Supported [planned] as part of the events of the afternoon.)
· To prepare the staff to sign-up for library cards on the spot

Program Chain
· To distribute the handout to families or appropriate audience for the Ronald MacDonald Reading Program
Questions for discussion:
· Bring your mask—Could be something that you have made yourself or an interesting mask that you purchased or received a mask as a gift?
· What are the prizes for the masks--are the masks judged; are there prizes for different age levels or are winners chosen by a draw? Everyone is a winner @ the library.
